Tonight I made a paleo Rogan Josh (a Mughal lamb stew) — starting first with Melissa Joulwan’s version for the spices blend, then moving over to Nom Nom Paleo’s adaptation (because I’d rather braise and walk away than have the pot on the top of the stove (our burners are dicey)). I served it over mashed cauliflower, which was a reasonable sub for rice — like rice, not a lot of flavor, but cut the spice a bit. I was really delighted with the stew, and the lamb was super tender. We also had a chopped salad of red peppers, red onion, cucumber, and a parsley lemon cumin vinaigrette. For dessert, fresh strawberries and blackberries, topped with whipped coconut milk, honey, and caramelized coconut chips. These are crazy good — the touch of cinnamon, salt, and the crunch makes them very difficult to stop eating. I highly recommend. I keep thinking about the berries, actually, and wanting to go eat more, but it’s late and I need to be reasonable Becky.
Then we played Catan AND I WON! This is only my third win in my lifetime. It’s a big deal.
