oh hai, melancholy
I read tonight in Milwaukee for the cream city review release party. It was me, Angela Torres, Jacques Rancourt, Nancy Reddy, and Sarah Carson. Cream City had a lovely space in the Hamilton hotel, plus locally made cupcakes! and other snacks. Clearly, I was into the cupcake aspect. I have some pics on FB — check them out if you are my friend there.
I am sad because I saw Jacques Rancourt off tonight. He’s going on to bigger and better things with his partner, Brandon, but he’ll be missed. It’s hard to see people you love leaving, but I tell myself that it’s positive and you don’t really lose people if they’re pursuing their passion.
I will do the good things
Like working on another job letter and on a story I’m trying to write (really, a story! me!), but right now I think it’s more important that I download this game onto my iTouch and play a little. Yeah. Priorities.

oh world, hello!
Tonight was really fun. I had dinner with Rebecca D and her husby Mark, and ordered fried chicken and waffles. Though this is a southern specialty, I’ve never had it, and I’m not sure that having it in Wisconsin was the way to go, but I will say it was delicious fried chicken. They also have a great seasonal punch right now — rhubarb juice, vodka, gin, etc. Is nummy.
Then I went to a reading at the Chazen. This was really fun, and it was great to hear readers from both the community and the university. Afterwards we went to the Vintage, and despite my best attempts, did not win at fooseball (sp?) or darts! How can this be? I have some very poor pictures of these things, but not the energy to gauge them right now. Then we even went to the Caribou, so I guess I’ve had the full Madison, WI experience now (though by that point I was ordering water, so really not). It was fun to hang out with some of the MFAs I haven’t gotten to know well, and it was also great to spend some some time with long standing friends. All in all, an amazingly fun night, although my feet are not amused by my high heel wearing.
Tomorrow I read in Milwaukee for the Cream City Review Release Party! If you’re there, you should come:
